I don’t know about you but come spring and summer I like to eat lighter. And that means starting my day the smoothie way. Smoothies are light but packed with goodness.

This super healthy strawberry smoothie is the perfect summer brekkie for me. It just sings of sunshine even if the Scottish weather isn’t being favourable.

I love smoothies not just for the great taste and the fact that they’re good for you. It’s because they are so damn easy to make and that’s really important to me first thing in the morning.

A breakfast straight from the blender is a winner for me!

What’s in this smoothie

Well strawberries of course, plus a banana, an apple, almond milk, Greek yogurt and ice cubes.

With only 6 ingredients in this strawberry smoothie it really is a super healthy breakfast treat.

I’ve used my homemade Greek style yogurt and also my own homemade almond millk in this smoothie recipe. Check out my video making your own homemade yogurt.

Milk alternatives

Use any type of milk that you like in this smoothie recipe.

How to make a strawberry smoothie

Just whizz everything up in your food processor, blender or Nutribullet.

Smoothie making tips

Freeze your bananas. I always chop up my aging bananas (this is when they are fullest in flavour) and pop them into freezer bags. That way I can have a smoothie any time I like as I use  frozen bananas as the base for lots of my smoothie recipes.

If you don’t have a high speed food processor/blender then put the ice cubes into a plastic bag or wrap in a tea towel and bash them with a rolling pin to break them up a bit. Now put the broken ice cubes into the food processor/blender and make that super healthy strawberry smoothie. This tip will save wear and tear on your machine.

Smoothie substitutions

Want to go dairy free/vegan? Then swap out the Greek yogurt for more almond milk or other nut milk or a coconut based yogurt.

Smoothie extras

Want some crunch on your smoothie? Then add some mixed seeds and crushed nuts. They are full of protein and add great texture and taste too.

Add protein powder if you want a boost to your smoothie
