I wasn’t planning on hitting the kitchen on a jamming mission yesterday, but Colette (up the lane) had seen big boxes of strawberries for 10p in the supermarket and brought me 3 boxes. So it had to be done really, can’t look a gift horse in the mouth or let something yummy go to waste.
Now came the problem, l have already done normal strawberry jam this year and also my very berry jam. Had to do something a wee bit different. So l have divised my strawberry chilli and vodka jam for adults only!
Strawberry chilli and vodka jam is great on crusty bread with some cheese, on croisants just like normal jam and it is truly fabulous on top of vanilla icecream. Of course l have felt obliged to try it in all these differing ways over the past 24 hours and l can honestly say it is YUMMY.
Would make a great prezzie for a foodie friend at Christmas.
How To Make Fruit'n'Fire Jam
- 1 kilo strawberries
- 1 kilo jam sugar
- zest of 1 orange
- handful of lemon balm leaves
- chillies to taste dried or fresh
- 2 tbsp Vodka
- This is just so, so simple really, just hull the berries and chop in half, crush or tiny chop the chillies and rip up the leaves. Now chuck everything into a big pot and boil, boil, boil!
- Once you have reached your setting point (a spoonful on a cold plate will set up quickly) add the dash of vodka and stir well. Now pour into jars and seal. See if you can wait till it cools before you try it!
