Home Spa In The Kitchen

Author: Karon Grieve Published : September 2012

Kitchen Home Spa

Today is a BBC day so I am off down to Glasgow to the studios to talk about how to create your own little home spa in the kitchen using using basic things you very often have around the kitchen.

I love doing these sort of things because it’s great getting the Have A Go message about homecrafts out there. After All, why spend a packet on fancy facial stuff when you can make your own from a packet, fruit, oil etc.

Onwards and upwards my friends, here’s how to create your own homespa in the kitchen….

HEAD FIRST

Give your hair a wonderful deep conditioning treat with this fruity concoction;

1/2 ripe banana (spotty is best)

1/4 cup water

2 tablespoons runny honey

1 teaspoon olive oil

Mash the banana and toss into blender with all the other ingredients and blitz to a puree.

Wash your hair as normal and then take off some of the rinse water with a towel so hair is still damp but not soaking. Apply the mixture and gently massage into scalp. Put on a shower cap and a warm towel on top and have a cuppa or whatever you fancy for half an hour while nature does it’s magic. Rinse the conditioner off with warm water.

You will have soft and shy locks and smell gorgeous too.

SOFT SCRUB

Have a body scrub using just sugar and olive oil.

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon olive oil.

Mix together and rub into hard skin areas like elbows, knees and heels. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water.

Soft as a baby’s…..

FACE FACTS

A natural cleansing wash for your face is cucumber. Just slice length-ways and remove the seeds and toss everything else into the food processor. Now blitz that baby until it is all just liquid. Pour into a bottle and store in fridge for up to 1 week. To use just wipe over your face using cotton pads. It will whip off dirt and grime and nasty old make up with ease.

PERFECT PUCKER

Love your lips with this great softening mix that sooths smooths and is wonderful for preventing the dreaded chapped lips of the winter months.

1/2 teaspoon honey

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon olive oil

Mix well and spread over lips before going to bed at night. Awake like a kissable princess – one can but dream…..

GET A GRAPE ON NAIL CARE

Grapes (especially red grapes) are full of antioxidants and enzymes that really help the skin to heal. Use 10 grapes and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar to whizz together into a fruity paste. Spread this on the nail bed and gently rub in to the delicate skin there (this is great for healing and preventing those nasty hangnails and flaking skin) just wipe off any ecess. Now use a little olive oil to rub into the nails themselves and over the hands to soften the skin and condition.

There you have it, a few ideas for using store cupboard basics in your beauty routine and creating your own little homespa in the kitchen.

Have a great day.

Karon x
