Ginger Thyme Tea Natural Cold Remedy

Author: Karon Grieve Published : August 2012

ginger thyme tea cold remedy

Okay, so it’s summer, the weather is nice (well sometimes), and guess what, I’m floored with a cold, or ‘full of the cold’ as my Mum used to say.

I always hate having a cold in the summer, having a streaming nose just seems to fit in with winter weather better than summer months. So here I am sniffing and coughing and none too pleasant to be near.

I’ve had to resort to my favourite cure of ginger thyme tea, and every time I drink this, I wonder why I don’t make it more often.

Ginger Thyme Tea Natural Cold Remedy

The ginger is warming and opens your tubes and your pores, it helps you breathe and makes you sweat. The thyme is wonderful for the throat and nose. Add lemon and it is just a wonder drink in a cup. Those three together make this ginger thyme tea natural cold remedy.

1 tablespoon of fresh thyme leaves

1cm piece of fresh ginger peeled and chopped

slice of lemon

Just pour on boiling water and let it infuse for 8 minutes. Strain and sip. Add honey if you want something sweeter, but to be honest it tastes great just as it is.

So there you are, a thymely home remedy, ginger thyme tea!

Cheers!

Karon x

Perfect timing, Karon! I have all the ingredients for this .. (1) ripe lemons on our tree, (2) thyme in the herb patch, (3) fresh ginger at hand, (4) honey from our local apiarist and, appropriately but annoyingly, (5) the mandatory head and chest cold needing your remedy. Thank you!

What a powerful combination. I simmer it to get more out of the ginger and the thyme
