Keeping insects out of the house, especially the kitchen can be a nightmare. So here’s how to keep flies away naturally with an onion and ditch the chemical sprays forever!
What’s this, an onion, how boring! Not so my dears, this is a weapon, a weapon of fly repulsion!
I’ve tried all manner of things to keep flies out of my kitchen in the summer months. You want to have the windows open for coolness and fresh air but you don’t want flies to invade your space.
Hanging sticky fly paper may work well but I can speak from horrid experience of getting the damn stuff stuck to my hair whilst passing a low-hanging fly paper and going into total meltdown.
Sprays are full of chemicals and don’t do you or the environment any good whatsoever.
Keep flies away the natural way
This is an old Spanish trick to keep flies out of the kitchen.
Just peel an onion and cut it in half horizontally.
Stud the onion with cloves and take either a big darning type needle (or piece of wire with a loop on the end) and strong thread/string and stab this right through the onion and knot underneath.
Now hang this delightful bauble in the kitchen window and watch as the flies make a body swerve from coming in and bothering you.
Go on, bug off!
