Ingredients for carrot cake liqueur
There aren’t a lot of ingredients in this easy carrot liqueur so make sure that you use the best quality when it comes the the carrots and the nuts.
Carrots – The star of the show in this super tasty hooch. Make sure your carrots are nice and fresh so they have lots of flavour.
Sugar – I’m using Muscovado brown sugar for this liqueur because I want that caramel like flavour that you get in a nice carrot cake. If you don’t have any brown sugar you can use white but you won’t get the same flavour.
Spices – When you think about carrot cake you think spicy and this carrot cake liqueur is no different. You will want some cinnamon and ginger to give it a bit of a kick.
Fruit and nuts – Orange zest for extra flavour plus walnuts and sultanas which all add to the amazing taste of this liqueur.
Hooch – Vodka. Go for supermarket own brand here and leave your Stolly and Grey Goose for sipping!
Can you use other booze?
Yes you can use rum for this liqueur which will give a really rich and deep taste to this liqueur and if you fancy you could go for a gin base instead.
How to make Carrot Liqueur
First, you want to give your carrots a good scrub and then grate them so that you are releasing all that wonderful sweet fresh flavour into the booze.
Now pop the grated carrot into a Kilner type large jar and add all the other ingredients to the mix and give it all a good stir.
Put the lid on the jar and set it aside in a cupboard/larder for a week.
Strain the liquid through a sieve lined with kitchen paper. Do not be tempted to squeeze out the last drops or you will make your carrot cake liqueur cloudy. Patience is a virtue here.
If the liqueur does have any bits floating in it simply pour it through a fresh sheet of kitchen paper to sieve out any unwanted extras.
Pour your carrot vodka into a sterilised bottle and you are done.
How long does this keep?
Your carrot cake liqueur will keep for up to a year or so in a cool dark cupboard.
How to serve carrot cake liqueur.
You can pop a bottle of this delicious liqueur into the freezer along with some tiny shot glasses and serve it as a frozen shot. It is great served just over ice as above and you can also add a mixer of your choice to make a tall cool drink. Ginger Ale works really well with carrot cake liqueur.
