Traditional Scottish potato scones (aka tattie scones)

Potato scones are a traditional Scottish recipe and make the perfect addition to any hearty cooked breakfast

Ingredients
 

  • 250 g potato boiled
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 25 g butter
  • 75 g plain flour

Instructions
 

  • Mash the potatoes with butter and salt
  • Add the flour till it forms a dough
  • Roll out on floured surface to 3mm thick and use a plate to cut out a circle and then cut into quarters
  • Heat a heavy based flat pan and bake on both sides till golden brown

Notes

Serve tattie scones warm with a full Scottish breakfast or with butter and jam/marmalade
Do not use leftover mashed potatoes that have had milk/cream added as this will make the dough too loose
You can freeze the cooked potato scones for up to 3 months
