How to make homemade buttermilk

Super easy buttermilk substitute with only 2 ingredients and ready in 10 minutes

Ingredients
 

  • 500 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions
 

  • Pour the milk into a jug or jar and add the lemon juice, stir and wait 10 minutes for the milk to thicken just slightly
  • store in the fridge for up to a week in a sterilised jar

Notes

You can use any type of milk you like from whole milk to skim milk.
Don't have lemon? Then use vinegar instead, plain white vinegar is best.
Make vegan buttermilk by using soy or almond milk
Use buttermilk for baking, batters, pancakes and even in your bath too!
