I wondered what I could give all my lovely friends in America on this important day. What better than a bouquet of flowers in Red, White and Blue.
I love America; big, bold, beautiful. Proud people and friendliness. Cowboys and big landscapes. Go Do It mentality and the American Dream. Colour in faces, thoughts and actions. Hospitality and hugs. Big smiles and open hearts. Politeness and passion.
I love America; I was blessed to visit there many, many years ago. Many, OMG when I was twenty! I went to Texas and stayed with pen friends in Dallas, Houston and Corpus Christie. We indulged in our passion for horses, Arabian horses, and visited some of the finest ranches in the state. Hurricane Allan hit hard and I saw weather that amazed and stunned me. Oh and I almost forgot, I kind of fell in love. His name was Bill Cooper and he was a radio DJ in Lufkin Texas. Ah the heady days of a carefree summer. A different lifestyle and excitement and wonder at every turn. Going to western dances and the cotton eye joe. Drinking bourbon and eating burgers, Tex-Mex and margaritas. Oh how this takes me back as I sit at my keyboard with rain streaming down outside on the top of a hill in Scotland. Where did that carefree spirit go and I wonder what happened to Bill?
Since those days I’ve made a lot of friends in America over the Internet. Friends through my love of horses and painting the models for many years. Lovely friends who came all the way over here to visit me. Friends in more recent years through the advent of blogging. Friends with open hearts and open minds, open arms and open smiles.
I love Americans for their Openness.
Happy Today America!
