Sunrise in snow. okay, okay I will only inflict one snow photo today. Will do more today and inflict them later!!
It is business as usual up here in the frozen north, complete chaos in the south. So what else is new…..
Oh that it would stay till next Friday so we could all have that elusive White Christmas That dream come true, the romance of snow on that one special day.
White Christmas is my favourite film. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was just tiny. it seemed to be on tv every year. by the time i was a teenager it was a family joke that I loved this film so much and i would be teased mercilessly by brother and Mum and Dad. I would scan the tv Times Christmas edition (oh how I remember the excitement of that coming out and the thought of all the special films we could see on tv – this was pre video) desperate to find my favourite film, and would be completely crushed on the odd occasion that it wasn't shown. When it was released on video my brother bought it for me as a Christmas prezzie, then he did the same again when it came out on DVD.
What is it about this film? i know I love Rosemary Clooney and that amazing black dress, Vera Ellen with her tiny waste and long, long legs, Danny Kaye with his happy-go-lucky persona and of course Bing Crosby with his homespun comfort and laid back charm.
The music, who couldn't love those songs. The improbable story line – who else could rustle up an entire broadway show within 48 hours with cast and crew all in place and the most amazing stage show just popping up out of nowhere.
The location, Vermont in winter, something us Brits just dream of. The humour, a gentle kind of humour, not brash and modern and in your face. Oh and romance, aaaah the romance. Gentle and funny, corny and so very uncool, but real old fashioned romance.
The dream of a White Christmas. Does it make us think that all our own dreams will come true, just for those few special hours of snow on that one special day. Funny how it is not just children who wish for a white Christmas, we big kids wish for it in other ways too.
So here's hoping for that magical White Christmas and may all your wishes come true……….
PS Won't be able to post again until Monday as I am off to do the Christmas fair in Glasgow this weekend.
