There be treasure in them thar hills.
Idgy, Eueun and Amy have been out treasure hunting. Oh they don't don pirate outfits (meet Johnny Depp and scamper off into the sunset – oops, no that's my fantasy) and set sail for the high seas on these loot gathering missions.
Oh no, they don wellies and coats, scarves and gloves and prepare to get muddy. Then they mount their trusty bicycles and freewheel down the hill to the lower farms. Then it's dismount from the trusty steed, throw it in the hedge (wouldn't be doing that to Trigger) and tramp off into the fields. The best time to do this is when the fields have just been cut and the big tractors with huge wheels have churned up the earth and reset the treasure bounderies.
You see treasure (like beauty) is in the eye of the beholder. The enthusiasm that bubbles over like champagne when the kids come home clutching bags of dirty 'artifacts' ready to wash out and lay on towels for inspection, is palpable. They have hunted, dug and foraged. They have faced the ellements and won the war.
Tiny broken porcelaine dolls, frozed Susans of a time gone by. Pieces of plates, oh the excitement of a puzzle, "Did you get that pattern?", "Look, that matches mine. Swap you". "How old is this bottle? Who owned it? What was this for?".
Questions, questions, the open mind. The quest for knowledge.
I love their treasure hunt days. Okay, maybe I could do without the mud on the floor and the use of all the towels for wash and tell. But the excitement and the imagination are worth any hassle. Bright eyes, excited faces, what stories they tell.
Some treasures hold the interest and stay the test of time. Little headless dolls and pottery shards in pretty colours. They will be kept and used as props in stories and doll house tales. Other things will fall by the wayside pretty soon and find their way into another bin and another lifetime.
Other people's rubbish from years gone by. Tiny pieces of the past making joy in the present.
You don't always need a pirate outfit (damn!) to find the treasure.
