At last it was dry enough this morning to give some of the herbs a long awaited ‘hair’ cut. This pic shows just how tall the lovage has grown in all this warm wet weather. Looks rather dramatic against the sky. It doesn’t look quite so dramatic now after being chopped up and hung up to dry. Lovage has a celery like taste and is good used in salads and soups. I also use it in my tub tea for the bath as it is a good cleanser and deodoriser.
On the cutting table l have lovage, tansy, cologne mint and apple mint. I tie up the bunches using the elastic bands that our post lady kindly leaves us every day wrapped round the mail. I save them all year and then when l am doing my herb harvesting they have yet another life.
Todays crop has overflowed the drying racks in HQ and now taken over the kitchen. Our Aga has a miriad of uses and l really don’t know how l could manage without it. At least we have no problem with flies coming into the kitchen, there are enough aromatics hanging up to chase away a squadren of buzzing bodies.
It has been a busy weekend one way and another, have managed to redesign the web site and make it much more colourful. Always amazes me when l manage to do something with the computer, l am one of those folks who is always afraid the darn thing will just go Pow! and zap off everything, l am therefore overly careful with it and never have the nerve to try my hand at anything. Well l am proud to say, l have been grasping the proverbial nettle of late and it hasn’t died on me yet……..
On that note l shall sign off, just in case l have tempted fate or the computer gremlins too much!
