Yesterday I popped down to the SECC in Glasgow to deliver the books and DVDs for my talks and demos there over the next four days. It’s always magical seeing them build this show from the ground up. On the set up day all is wires, boxes, rolls of carpet, electricians, stock everywhere, general meyhem and mess. This is like a mad circus that blows into town once year, bring colour, excitement and joy.
I am usually in mega stress mode almost chewing own foot off while trying to build a set and make things happed, worried sick about impending sales or lack of and generally in a guddle as we say in Scotland.
Not so this year. I am calm…..
I catch up with my lovely friends who are doing their set ups. News of the past year, a new wedding for Chris, congratulations girl you’re a star! and here she is setting up her gorgeous jewellery stand. Every year I treat myself to something from her. She is a magicial with wire and gems.
And the mad and wonderful Carrie. Oh what would I do without her. The years of shows we’ve done together, the naff hotels we’ve shared at shows on the road. This is like a roving family, a gypsy caravan of fun every year.
We compare notes, we drink endless coffees and speculate as to who is here and who isn’t. The whys and the wherefores, the who’s he and the what happened.
Yes it is all in the preparation, all in the getting there.
I’m so glad I’m doing demos and talks there this week.
Every morning 11am I will be at the Crafting Demo area teaching a class of 30 to make mini festive bunting. In the afternoon at 2.30pm I will be at the Cooking Theatre demonstrating fabulously festive Foody Gifts. There will be book signings and books and DVDs for sale.
If you are at the show PLEASE come up an say Hello, I’d love to meet any of my readers.
Have a great day.
