Teenagers are wonderful things, but they do tend to take you literally. “Just dump that out in HQ” means just that – dump. Not put on table, maybe in a cupboard or anything, just dump on floor. My fault, I should specify!
Anyway it wasn’t until I got out to HQ myself the other day that I realised the place was in a wee bit of a mess.
Time to sort out the dreaded prop cupboard.
What an improvement! Only took me two hours of faffing about and playing with things. I even managed to get rid of at least one black bin bag full of non-essentials. Oh lord who am I kidding, how can I categorise things as essentials and non-essentials when essentially the whole cupboard is full of bits and bobs, mismatched glasses, old china, vintage bottles, old cutlery and some things that I don’t even recognise.
I’m a huge believer in “That’ll be useful one day” when I see things in charity shops and car boot sales. Trouble is I end up with a heck of a lot more stuff that never actually comes into play as useful for anything. I’m always convinced that the one thing I bin will be the perfect prop for the next article or book shoot. There will be that moment when I just have to have that perfect cup, the one that was deemed too cutesy on the last clear out. Ho hum, I can’t keep it all, have to make myself work on the one in and one out principal.
The skull is Nigel my halloween buddy who has been lurking on the shelf over the Aga these past few months and giving Idgy the creeps. I noticed he was missing last month when she was taking props back and forth to HQ. Obviously taking advantage of moving stuff she decided to give poor Nigel the push and evicted him from the kitchen.
The weather was gorgeous yesterday. The perfect day to get outside and get HQ all spruced up and ready for the summer.
Cleared out and organised and ready for action. Well that is just one side really the prop cupboard and studio bit where I do photos. The other bit where my desk and sewing machine live are still to be sorted. Something fun to do on the next sunny day I think.
I found so many things I had set aside as projects. That rocking horse for one thing. I bought that in a junk shop last year and have been meaning to strip it down and repaint it for ages. Definitely something to do in the summer months as it will be an outside with nasty paint stripper job I think. I’d love to repaint him as a traditional dapple grey. I think he would look lovely at Christmas time beside the tree with prezzies around him.
Hmmmmm I must make a list of the things out there that I want to do. If I write them down there is a better chance I will actually do them. There are jewelery projects, sewing projects and all sorts of things. Projects that I know I will really enjoy doing and yet have denied myself the pleasure.
This summer I intend to enjoy some crafting and do things for myself to enjoy. Last year I spent the entire summer madly making the stock for the Tresori Christmas ornaments to sell. This year I’m not planning on making any stock to sell, just stuff for me.
Now today is a day at the desk. Publisher coming for the new book tomorrow so I have to double check and recheck and get fuzzy eyed looking at all the photos on screen. I’m sure I’ll be sneaking outside at some point if the sun shines for me.
Can’t resist it.
