Well this is it, at last my book is done, dusted and ready to move on to new homes!
Sit down, pour yourself a cuppa and enjoy these few photos taken from "So Easy Herbal – Ten herbs, how to grow them use them and save money".
The book takes ten basic herbs (basil, chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, marjoram, parsley, peppermint, rosemary, sage and thyme) and gives you tips on how to grow them and make full use of them both in the kitchen (teas, oils, sugars and blends), bathroom (soaps and salts etc) and also for cleaning, fragrance and sleep.
It is a book aimed at anyone who just wants to 'have a go' with herbs. You don't need acres of space and lots of experience. Far from it, you don't need a garden at all, just a few pots on the windowsill and just a wee bit of effort.
This is a real 'me' book, I've put in my scrap book pages to show info on the herbs, it's all my own photos and I've chatted throughout the book about how I got into herbs and their place in my own life.
It has been a long time in the making – well really since I started Dream Acres back in 2004 and so many people asked me how I made the things I sold. I always thought of pulling it all together in a book, I just never quite knew how.
Well, as you blog readers will know, this year has been one of trials in one way or another. one of these was having to spend 3 months flat out with both feet in plaster. What better time to pull out all those notebooks, grab the laptop and really knuckle under to my herb book.
That's now it came about this year. I got so much back up and support from you guys, my blog readers and friends. you have kept me going when times have been tough and inspired me with your comments and friendship.
I thought the book deserved a whole new blog space and a new look place to live. Please bookmark this new web address www.dreamcountry.co where you will find my chat page from now on.
To say "Thanks" and celebrate the launch of my book, I'd like to give away a signed copy. Just send me a comment telling me something (anything) about herbs. Your favourite herb, why you like mint chocolate, lavender memories, a herb you don't like the smell of, favourite herb tea, garden tip, name of a character fro "The herbs" children's tv series all those years ago, go on anything you like.
I will pull a name 'out of the hat' on Sunday 29th August and announce the winner next Monday.
So, welcome to my new look blog, take a tour round the new areas. I'll be putting up regular 'How to' articles in the "hands On" section. Everything from photo tips, to gardening, crafting and of course cookery. The shop has my own hand crafted items and designs, as well as a section for Vintage Finds. As many of you know, I am a mad brocanteur while I am over in france. I just love flea markets anywhere in the world. This vintage page is for all those bits and pieces that I buy at fairs both here and abroad, little bits of history that can recreate something just a little bit special somewhere else. An old French book can look so good displayed with a few sprigs of lavender, a fun tin tray can become a talking point in the kitchen. Little things that make a difference.
The book has it's own page here too, you can buy it online direct from me. It will soon be available as an ebook too. More writing is in the pipeline, "So Easy herbal" won't be an only child for long.
Before I finish off this morning I have to say a HUGE THANKS to Colin the web site wizard, and Tim the man of magic when it comes to making things happen with the computer. I couldn't have done any of this without you.
I'd love to know what you think of the new look and of course my booky wooky!
