Anyway onwards and upwards. I have been beavering away in HQ (soon to be renamed The Studio – aren’t I posh!) for the past few days getting it all cleared out and reorganising the space – even selling off my beloved work table. Oh yes my friends, changes are a happenin’.
Anyway there I am painting wooden drawers and being just a tad industrious for day 4 of this mission. The radio is on, I’m singing along and just casually look up to see snowflakes the size of crumpled paper hankies fluttering from the sky.
And I do sing, I jump up and down outside in the snow shrieking and laughing and acting a bit like a five year old, but hey ho who cares. It’s snow, fun and I love it.
It is at this moment when I feel my feet getting more than just cold. They are damp, no wet. I look down and find I have come out to HQ/Studio in slippers (well it was dry and no sign of snow when I commuted in the morning) which needless to say are not the best footwear for snow dancing and leaping about in Narnia.
Trot back to house and remove slippers putting them on the Aga to dry. Admire said slippers whilst doing so. Actually they are not jogging memories of my own wardrobe. I can’t remember buying them. Wander off to loo and pass another pair of very ratty tatty looking slippers under the sink. Hmmmm those look somewhat familiar.
I remember Idgy politely asking me the other day if I’d been buying myself new slippers. “No, no, these are my old ones, haven’t seen them in ages, had forgotten all about them” I quipped back.
As I look at the ratty specimens under the sink realisation dawns. A senior moment has been revealed in all its glory. Yes I have been gleefully wearing my daughters nice furry slippers for the past three days and didn’t even know it.
Bless her that she was too polite to lunge at my feet and grab them off me.
She is not a happy bunny when she gets back from school and finds them on the Aga with tell tale white salty snow marks all over them. “Mum, how could you! Wear your own slippers in future, I hate having big feet like you”. How charming that I not only get a row for nicking the slippers (and yes I did deserve it) but I am insulted in my size of feet too.
Deep joy. Deep snow. Going out to The Studio (well okay HQ as still not fully studio-ish yet) in my big footed wellies this morning.
Have a lovely weekend.
