The old paint box is out, the pencils at the ready. New design for Scottish range is in place.
Thistles are prickly customers at the best of times. Try painting them. ! I have lots of photos to work from, plenty of inspiration, but can I get these guys to do the right thing. no, so far I have drawn what looks like a cotton bud on top of a raisin, a brush on top of an old sock, prickles not coming naturally from my pen.
After hours of frustrated doodling I gave up and headed off for a run. Huge, no HUGE mistake. What looked like a dusting of new snow on the lane was fine outside the house, but at the bottom of the hill it hid a rink of black ice. Wheeeheeeewhump! See Karon fly through the air at high speed (well high speed for aging female) and thump down on her bum and foot. Plenty of padding on part one, not so good for part two. Unfortunately this was as mentioned at the bottom of the hill, I then had to hobble back a mile and a half uphill and guess what, just to add the proverbial insult to injury – it's snowing.
My joy is unbound.
Set up camp back in the kitchen, soaking wet and very cold. Look balefully at horrible thistles all over the kitchen table. There is only one thing for it.
Coffee and calories. Dig out that box of luxury mince pies (still within sell by date, just think of the preservatives, yummy) and throw four in the aga. Feel justified in abusing body with extra fat intake due to hurt feelings, hurt foot, hurt bum, hurt pride, oh and an inability to draw a bloody thistle properly……
