Yesterday was wet, winday and just a tad cold (somewhat similar to today really!) and on the blog l was having a jolly good moan about having to go out for my run in it. Well dear reader you will be thrilled (!) to know l did not let myself down but bounded forth with grit, determination and a steely glint in the eye.
When l staggered into Wendy's house (my half way point for coffee and chat) she had just switched on a recording of BRIEF ENCOUNTER and had her cross stitch out. Just to put you in the picture here, she has a HUGE television, feels rather like being in the cinema, and puts my 22" job well into the shade. Anyway there was Celia Johnson and Trever Howard up on the 'big screen' giving it their all. What could l do, l was sucked into that gentle world of will she, won't she, will he, won't he, and how in heaven could she be so damn calm about it all. Of course l had seen the film years before, but yesterday we sat there glued for the entire film. The manners, innocence, music etc all fairly gripped us. And the frustration when that silly woman interupts their final few moments together. Oh it was all just too, too much.
What should have been the usual brief cup of coffee and back home again, turned into an hour and a half and three cups of coffee. After that l fairly waddled home. You try running after three cups of coffee, it just aint easy!
But it was a nice little break and almost a 'time out of time', gave me something to think about as l sat at the sewing machine catching up on the Christmas hearts. However this morning it will definately be a brief encounter with one cup of coffee and then home again.
