LOSING THE PLOT AND HANGING THE CURTAINS

By Karon Grieve 3 Comments

SpicedApple

You now either my 'senior moments' are all merging into one. or l am just losing the plot completely. It took one of my trusty bloggers to email and remind me of my Spiced Apples that l had mentioned on the blog a few weeks ago, and should have put on the web site last week. 'Ah the apples, no problem, l shall have them up on the site tomorrow' was my reply. This meant a mad scuttle about yesterday trying loads of photos to find one that l lied enough for the web site. Isn't it funny how you can snap away quite happily with a camera all the time, but then when you want one shot in a certain way, you can snap till you are blue in the face and still not be happy with it. Anyway this picture is the end result, short of inviting Snow White over for a photo shoot it is the best l can do! So for all you apple fans, they are now available on the web site.

Come to think of it, yesterday was very much a fruit 'n' veg day out in HQ. Not only was l in full photography mode on the apple front, I also got in there and stuffed my 20 carrots for the day, yes dear reader I made myself do it and have another 20 lined up for this morning. Funny how some things you just do without really thinking about it, yet others become a bit of a chore and you find yourself making a silly fuss about knuckling under and getting it done. Just now the carrots are being my nemisis.

I did do one thing yesterday that l have been meaning to do for months. I am ashamed to admit that l took down the livingroom curtains (miles of blood red velvet and about 2 feet too long for the windows)  at the begining of the summer to wash them. Once washed l decided to take them up a bit. Afterall there is the rich looking puddle-on-the-floor designer look and then there is the just plain silly they-are-too-damn-long look. I am afraid mine fell into the latter catagory. The good thing is that l saw the possibilities for some rather glam santa hat hangers coming out of the excess velvet. This made the getting them cut a much more interesting option and l got that job done right away. Alas, once the interesting (prospect of santa hats) part was done l rather lost interest and left the curtains piled up on the diningroom table for the past 3 months awaiting a 'quick run up on the sewing machine'. You would think that someone who sews for a living would have no trouble with running up the hems on her own curtains, not so, this became another of those 'must do and don't want to' tasks and went on and on for months. Finally yesterday l bundled up the well crushed curtains and zapped them through the machine, only too a matter of moments. So impressed at how quickly this task had finally been accomplished l then thought l would just hang them right away. Now those curtain hooks must be somewhere. Not only did l have the hooks that had come out of the damn things in the first place (admitedly lost a few  along the way) but l just knew l had bought a new bag of them. Searched the house high and low, wasted SO much time on this mission. Eventually gave up and drove into nearest town to buy more. Got home, hung curtains (only one is an odd length, but if you eep your eyes away from the floor you would never notice!) and then guess what, opened the stair cupboard to get the hoover and there they were, a huge bag of curtain hooks just laughing at me from the shelf right in front of the door. Now why hadn't l thought to loo there!! I will say one thing tho, the livingroom looed really cozy last night with the curtains bac up – really should have done that months ago……………

Back to the carrots….

Love the look of the spiced apples! Would think they will go down very well at Xmas fairs as they make you think of cosy, country kitchens smelling of cinnamon & nutmeg and full of good things to eat! Curtains story made me laugh – oh how familiar! Am impressed you’ve done them though, mine still either bag on the floor or are pinned up in situ!Good luck with the carrots! Best Wishes, Gill
