I love pansies, to me they are very 'friendly' flowers, full of colour, cheer and able to grow (and keep on growing) almost anywhere, and with a determination to just hang in there all summer long. I took these photos yesterday, the sun came out and my flower friends were holding up their heads to catch some rays. They are fading now and will very soon be finished for the year, but oh what a show they have given me. From Spring to Autumn you could not have asked for a better return for a few pounds on a couple of boxes of plugs.
I have to admit that l am never very good on flowers. I am a herb gal through and through. My garden is a place of work so everything does something. The pansies are added in every Spring just to add a dash of colour and fill out the beds till the herbs start getting busy. I have to reorganise my thinking now, they are working plants, they have brought a smile to my face every time l have looked at them. I have stopped en route to HQ to admire them, to touch their velvety faces, yes they are working plants – they are feel good flowers. Rediculously easy to grow and with a return of riches that is enough to make any bank blush.
I am even thinking of trying some winter pansies now, just a tub by HQ for a bit of colour, tho l am not sure how long they would survive Mr Frost who hits hard up here on the hill.
Thanks for all the comments re the panto/helping out post, it is panto again tonight. But l shall go in with a firmness hitherto unknown to me, l shall be strong, l shall stand on both feet (!) and l shall gently but firmly point out that l just don't have time. Will resist temptation to jump up and down and shreak that l am practically chewing own foot off in stress just now and surrounded by more sewing than the average sweat shop in China. No, l shall remain calm, l shall be pleasant and l shall be firm.
