I don't know about you but l am always fascinated by other peoples' systems/procedures/timetables etc. I am always on the look-out for better/more efficient ways of storing things, doing things, just organising in general l guess. I find l get so stressed out when l can't find something and have to waste time searching for it, this makes me an addict to any sort of organising system etc. Last week l got a great comment from Nan saying how she clears her work table in the morning, turns off the phone and sets to it to get the work done. In the evening she does her hand sewing in front of the TV. Well l am right in there on the sewing all day and doing the hand finishing in front of the tv at night. But clearing the work table/desk first – now l am SERIOUSLY impressed on that one. I can bearly find the damn desk most days. I know it would definately help in the searching/stress business, but oh dear the very thought of clearing it in the morning before l start. Tell you what, today l will try it out and see if l can continue to do it all week. On the phone thing, well my answer machine always sounds a tad fuzzy and l can't make out numbers on it, so l tend to leave the phone on. I have Radio 2 on all day and that keeps me company with chat, music and news while l get things done.
Sewing in the evening – thats what l do too. I love to have something good on the TV and for the past few months l; have been watching dvds of Sex and the city. I was so upset when l finally finished the last disc in the box, I had got so used to my evenings with the girls and their lives in New York, so very different from here I can assure you. I've found the humour, locations, colour, fashions, glamour etc all highly entertaining as l sew. I have to bob my head up and down to see what is happening on screen every so often, and l do miss a lot when head is down looking at sewing. But it does make the mind numbing business of doing the same thing over and over again that bit easier. Last night there was a full evening of Midsommer Murders on tv. Well l was in my element (so was Idgy as she gets to watch a bit of these as it is much more of a 'who dun it' than gruesome murder stuff) and sewed away the entire evening without even noticing how many Christmas hearts were passing through my hands.
Here is the pile of 57 hearts all ready to have their centres hand painted with gold glitter today. Just think of the mess if l did that little job in front of the TV! Good old Detective Inspector Barnaby has done it again, he has got me through a huge pile of work without really noticing it.
Now l am off to run ad then l shall clear my desk and see how it helps.
