The taste of summer!
Don’t you love celebrating summer, eating outdoors, gathering with friends in the warmth and sunshine, it makes the trudge through the winter months all worthwhile.
When I have friends round for a meal I love to get things started with a cocktail, it just makes any event that wee bit more special as I don’t generally make cocktails just for myself.
In summer I love to use Lemoncello as a base for a cocktail. To me this Italian liqueur is summer sunshine in a glass. I even make my own lemoncello and you can find the recipe here on my lemoncello post.
To make your own Lemoncello Martini
You will need;
Lemoncello (preferably the stuff you made yourself using my fabby recipe on this post last year)
Cherry and lemon peel to garnish and anything else you want to stick on there for that feeling of all out summer!
If you have a cocktail shaker fill it with ice, if you don’t have one dig out a large coffee jar (empty of course!) and fill this with ice instead.
How to time
Now pour in your measures of booze. I like to make my cocktails fresh so just put in my two measures of vodka and two measures of lemoncello.
Tom Cruise impersonation time, lid on a shake like mad. Imagine yourself at that beach bar, it’s party time!
Prepare your cocktail (or any shape glass, it really doesn’t matter) glasses by pouring in a centimetre of vermouth and swishing it around. Now purists in the martini world will say you should now pour this out and just have the vermouth flavouring the glass.
Needless to say I don’t.
Pour in your cocktail from the shaker. Add any adornments, resisting those little unbrellas unless you are going for the full hen-party or Dell Boy look.
Raise glass and say ‘Cheers’ as you sip that summer sunshine with your lemoncello martini.
Ain’t life grand!
