Oh look, my christmas cake. Ok, ok i can already hear you thinking that I'm just regurgitationg a photo taken last month. Not so my sweets. this is my pride and joy which I finally iced on Sunday.
Back in November in the mists of time I made three Christmas cakes. I wasn't being generous and making for friends, no I was trying out recipes for the new book. The final three (there were others beleive me, some best forgotten) were made in November and this was The Chosen One. It has been wrapped and boxed and fed with brandy since then.
There was no need to prioduce it for Christmas as we were going to Rosemary's and she is one talented baker. Her Christmas cakes are amazing, there was no need for back-up from me.
So my cake waited in it's tin and I knew I would ice it when I was ready and when I would have time to photograph it properly for the book.
So on Sunday I unwrapped my beloved and iced it with simple white icing and a casual snowflake design. I wrapped it in ribbons and tinsel and placed it reverantly on the old glass cake stand. Now where to photograph it? On the windowsill in the kitchen with the snowy garden outside. Even if you don't see the snow, I know it's there and it seems just right.
Now note who has spotted the cake and is bottom right corner…..
Oh I took lots of photos of that cake, I used different cameras and leapt about all over the place. But this shot, this instant 'Woah, lookeeee here Mum a cake, is it for me?!' shot is my favourite.
This made my day, it tickles me just looking at it. My little pal, just being him, ain't he cute!
So here's the cake in all it's glory. Of course now the photos are done it can be eaten. I knew it was going to be a goody as I'd been sampling the stand in (oh yes there was a stand in too) all along, but wow am I thrilled with it. My magic ingredient worked far better than I'd hoped. You'll have to wait till later this year for the book to come out to get the recipe.
But now the best bit. Oh the calories. It's cake and tea, cake and coffee every day. It was even cake and sloe gin on sunday. Detox, who gives a toss, this is my cake and by God I'll eat it!
