The other day my lovely friend Sue and I played hooky. We escaped alegedly for a cup of coffee at an old mill coffee house.
While the coffee wasn’t up to much the chat was great.
But it was the ‘let’s take a wee walk’ afterwords that blew us away…
Hot sun on the pathway, old mangle, ploughs and bits of farm machinery left to dry out and rot away. We expect nothing and admire wild flowers and talk.
Sue looking amazing in the dappled light. A great artist and a fabulous friend.
This is what we didn’t expect just 10 yards down the track. The river, the rock pools, the stepping stones. The sheer beauty.
This takes your breath, puts a smile on your face and refreshes your soul.
We clamber down the bank and just have to sit on the warm rocks. The sound of the river is both tinklingly gentle and at once powerfully loud.
It tumbles over some rocks and between others. There is bubbling and calm. White water and calm dark pools. You can lose yourself in this world.
We cool our feet for an hour and put the world to rights.
The feeling is amazing. The calm, the clarity. Life is better with water.
Thanks Sue for a lovely afternoon.
