Living in the country has many lovely, lovely benefits. The peace and tranquility, the fresh air, the flowers, trees, animals, green grass, oh I could go on and on…..
There are one or two minor drawbacks, one of those being Getting Things Done when something doesn’t work.
There are two great big horrors, one is anything happening to the Aga, that beautiful beastie that rules the kitchen and is loved beyond measure and wiped clean and patted with affection on a regular basis. The other is running out of oil. No, I don’t mean cooking oil, olive oil or even bath oil. I mean the oil that fires the heating and the hot water supply. Worse by far than running out of the stuff is finding you have sprung a leak in the trusty old oil tank.
Hmmmmmm what’s that funny smell you wonder as you catch a whiff of the valuable comodity oozing from the tank. Mr X next door says he is On The Case and will deal with the situation. Word of warning here, never trust a man who is allegedly On The Case (especially not ex-husband from next door) he will invariably screw up.
He did. Of course the new tank had been ordered and was due to be installed. Or was it…..
No it wasn’t dear reader because he forgot. The tank then ran out completely and I was left standing in the kitchen wondering why the house was so cold and there was no hot water in the taps.
We are now boiling pots of water to wash up and having to beg baths from a neighbour while awaiting delivery of new tank and then a load of fuel.
Ah the joys of the country. The peace and quiet, the smell of the flowers…
Oh for the sound of an oil lorry and a whiff of its contents.

We’re currently waiting for our delivery….but we’re very lucky we have a couple of inches left in the bottom of the tank and no Aga (sob, sob) to keep running.
I hope it’s all sorted out for you soon, the Aga going out is like having a good friend stood sulking in the corner of your kitchen.
