My blog is back, up and running again at last. Sometimes when you get the urge to do a bit of techno house keeping you really ought to think long and hard, maybe sit down with a cuppa and equate the whole idea to normal housework and just how damn boring that can all be. Then you should do what you do when faced with a huge housekeeping task – forget it and go play with something else.
I think maybe I had hit the over confident button the other week when I managed to set up my new www.karongrieve.com site myself. Oh this wordpress stuff is a breeze I thought, let’s get larder love sorted out in just a few days and whizz on to the next adventure. Hmmmmm sometimes I should really slow down a bit and take a sip from the cup that is marked Reality.
The whole DIY bit on this site has been a bloody nightmare. There is just so much stuff onboard, five years of posts and thousands of photographs. During the changeover some have gone a.w.a.l., okay let’s be honest, there were over 800 broken links last week. With the help of lovely Jo at Writers Block Admin we managed to get it down to 500. Now I am having to manually relaod photos every day which is a l o n g and very boring task.
As an avid blog reader it is often all too easy to get sucked into the world that is very often make-beleive. Some bloggers would have their readers beleive that they live in a perfect universe and skip around being the perfect mother a la Julie Andrews (though she was always the nanny) while cooking up the most scrummy dishes in their perfectly decorated and ever so tasteful kitchens.
The image is all sweetness and light and never a foot goes wrong.
Hmmmmmmm, it is easy to fall into the trap of wishfulness and thinking that this sort of storydom is real. Come on we know these people we read their stuff every day of course they are living this perfect life and there is obviously something wrong with us that we aren’t.
Well as a blogger of 5 years I’m here to tell you that most of us are really human and live in the land of cock-ups and tragedy just like our readers.
Some dramas are hellish, like family crisis, illness and death. Other traumas fall into the cock-up category like jams that won’t set and jellies that do exactly the opposite (see above).
My blog is an ongoing work in progress. It is just like life really, it is never perfect, it’s sometimes up and bouncy and sometimes a bit hard going. Sometimes the jam sets perfectly and other times it all gets a wee bit sticky.
So forgive the broken links my friends, this is a real blog and sometimes things don’t quite work the way they should. I’ll carry on reloading photos and digging into old posts that I had long forgotten, reliving memories both good and bad. Remembering people and places and sadly missed friends both human and animal. What a lot of history is up here hidden amongst the recipes and home hints.
I think I will have to pour another cup of tea and read a few more as I sort out the photos…..
