You know when you are on the last days of a holiday and are all relaxed and de-stressed you start to make plans for how you are going to Get Things Done when you get home? Well I was full of that on Monday but when I staggered into the house after 6 hours travelling on Tuesday night all my good planning went out of the window.
Did I upload the 300 photos I had taken? No. Okay so the first part of the Big Plan has gone awry.
Within 1/2 hour of my touching terra firma in the UK there is an email from publisher with lists of book queries and editing to be done Right Away. This is what happens when you post on Facebook telling people of your movements.
Yesterday is then spent like this;
6am hit ground running by unpacking everything and doing first of two washing loads. While that is churning away I carefully unpack all my lovely old props and bits and pieces I bought at the brocant etc in France and spend some happy time swishing about in hot soapy water and bringing things back to usable life without losing any of that all important aged patina. Am thrilled to report no breakages at all this time, even got two short stemmed wine glasses back without hitch and the little slate boards made it intact this journey and only caused a mild flap but some fun at Bordeaux airport when they went through the scanner and blocked the X-ray. “Aha, these are the old ipads” said the guard as he lifted them out with a flourish and left everything else untouched.
My plan of doing 2 hours on novel every morning is scuppered by the stack of questions and queries from publisher. Spend 4 hours glued to computer going over pages and old recipe notes and sorting things out. Eyes fuzzy from the screen I hang out first load of washing and shove in next batch.
Remember I have to call Dan at Country Living magazine and spend half an hour discussing the talks and classes I will teach at the Scottish show in November. Agree to teach one craft class and do 3 demos per day. Can I send him recipe notes and blurb right away? No problem, another hour spent chasing notes and working out what can be done on what stage and what will work in front of a crowd.
Suddenly realise that there is still no food in the fridge and that the damn thing doesn’t fill itself by osmosis as I had always hoped it would someday. Leap into Tigger and head to the shops. Back with food and deal with washing changeover.
As hanging out second batch I notice there are a lot of very ripe berries in the garden that had better be picked a.s.a.p. before the birds take full advantage. Spend an hour with bowls, basket and plastic boxes gathering up as much as possible while sun still shining as weather forecast not good for tomorrow.
Reply to emails.
Idgy and I eat dinner and she is still in her pjs having enjoyed a very restful day lazing about in her room.
Do the ironing.
Flop down on sofa at 8pm with silly film on TV in the background as I make notes for those demos and work out running order etc.
10pm and I am finished.
Go for a bath and am about to castigate myself for Not Getting Things Done when I realise I have actually had a rather busy day.
Funny how we are always so ready to bitch ourselves up for not ticking the boxes of our To Do lists, but have actually got through a lot of stuff and not been slacking at all. Slid back into the hot water and had a quiet smile. Yes, I may not have uploaded the photos, written a blog post or done 2 hours on my writing, but hey, I did get through a lot.
Let’s get those photos up through lightroom so you can see some piccies next week.
