Friendship. Something so very, very special. Something to be cherished. Something that doesn’t need constant contact or feeding if it is real. It’s just there, only requiring the nudge of timing to bring it to the fore again.
Fourteen years is way too long. Time flies, it slips by and you just don’t realise it. Suddenly tou are ladies of a certain age and not those gals you once were. Mums of teenagers. Ladies who wear reading glasses. We are of a certain age.
Hell, we are still US!
Yesterday was special, it was a day out of time. My friend Louise came to visit and we had 14 years to catch up on.
Funny how some friends, real friends just pick up where they left off. There is no time difference in our world, it’s almost as if the conversation never stopped.
Some folks you think of as friends disappoint completely and you realise they were never real anyway. Maybe you saw them through rose glasses (or was it a wine glass), you thought there was common ground and then realise there was no ground at all. They are way off your mark and you want to run a mile. Some you lose through time and wish you could put the clock back and make things right but just don’t know how to do it.
And others, those special few are so real they Get you and you them.
It was a cake and coffee fest. Tea and laughter. 8 hours of wonder. Idgy meets at last the lovely lady after whom she is named (her middle name) and knows a kindred spirit right away.
The animals all come to say hello. The polecat makes an impression.
We go out to the garden and return to the kitchen to find Finzean dragging whats left of the lovely lemon and ginger drizzle cake off the table and along the floor.
Yes, Louise will remember the polecat.
Here’s to friendship. Find it, keep it, enjoy every moment of it wherever it is.
PS recipe for the cake on Saturday. What we had was lovely and I think the polecat enjoyed it too.
