Contrary to popular belief coffee can actually be somewhat good for you according to dietitian Helen Bond in a recent article. This is seriously good news for all us coffee hounds who feel the day is not complete/livable without the cappuccino fix.
Apparently coffee is not the diuretic as is commonly believed but actually counts towards that magical 2 litres daily fluid intake. It is proven to aid performance and research shows that drinking 2 cups per day has a huge benefit to alertness and attention span for up to four hours after drinking.
Great to know that my cappuccino is not all bad news. But I still have to draw the line at 2 cups and any more just has to be decaff or I am a jittery wreck, something along the lines of a squirrel on speed – really best avoided at all costs!
I think the 4 hour rule on the alertness etc is definitely true. My cut off point for caffeine has to be 6pm as I know I’d never sleep if I drank the stuff any later than that. It always tickles me how we traditionally finish a dinner party with cups of the strongest black coffee, thus ensuring guests will go home buzzing merrily and unable to reach the land of nodd.
So pour that cuppa girls and enjoy every sip, remember coffee is good for you!
