Monday morning and we are all well and truly back in Narnia again. Walton's Mountain is a total white out and road seems to be in stealth mode lurking somewhere under the white stuff.
This pic was taken after the first fall of snow and befor the buckets and buckets of the stuff fell in the afternoon.
I was out delivering Chrissy cards. It was amazing walking in the snow. Total silence all around, just the rhythmic scrunching of my feet on the snow. I've always loved that sound, walking in snow. That gentle cracking, soft scrunching and almost a squeak. I remember noticing it as a little girl, yesterday I found myself listening to my own footsteps, listening to the snow.
The rusted leaves on the beech hedges have been iced like confectionery for almost a month now . Actually they look a bit like some of those Christmas wreaths that have all manner of faux greenery/leaves etc on them. The leaves with snow never look right do they? Well the real thing doesn't look real either.
The whole world is silent and empty, there is nobody about, just me on Walton's Mountain and a road deep in unmarked snow.
I do the only thing possible
Why do I do this? No idea, seemed like the perfect thing to do, maybe a bit of a Michael McIntyre moment. My hair should go floppy and i should tell jokes. Neither happened, I just skipped.
Skipping was fun. But now I want to go one better, I want to do something I have been longing to do for months now,
Okay, so I am not exactly dressed for the event, furry boots and ten layers of assorted clothing do not lend themselves to freedom of movement and the smoothest of running conditions.
Did that matter, no. First I thought I'll just run a few yards to the first big tree, sailed past the tree. Okay make it to the next patch of trees – whoosh they are past, gone in an instant. Okay gal go for it, make it to the crossroads.
I did, and I leaped in the air as though I'd won a gold for Scotland. I punched the air, I laughed, I shouted and I grinned like an idiot.
This is the first time I have even tried to run since the foot ops back in March.
Monday morning – hmmmmm have sore knee, think I twisted it when leaping in the air. Must remember not to do the leapy bit next time.
Keep warm, keep safe.
