Well that’s it, last training run last night with Attila in preparation for Sunday’s Great Scottish Run. I’ve done the best I can, now I just have to avoid Idgy for next two days as she is snuffling about with a hellish cold and the last thing I want is to catch that. We skate around each other up here on Walton’s Mountain in hope that I won’t be hit by the bugs. Not nice to wave a claw in goodnight gesture from 20 paces, but hey ho, needs must and all that.
Other news on the running front. Phoebe has had to drop out due to an ankle injury. I’ll really miss having her around on the day, we’ve become great friends and always make each other laugh no matter what.
I shall be running with the gorgeous and unsinkable Bruce. One of the funniest people I’ve ever met. We are sure to get some fun out of this, regardless of how knackered we are and whatever the delightful Scottish weather cares to throw at us. We will do this together and survive till the end. Our team is now down to Bruce and me, Dr Debbie, Nick the florist, Stella the coach (she who will be obeyed and looks horribly good in lycra) and we now have two additions from STV news as well.
Messages have been flying back and forth all week, and particularly in last 24 hours all about race prep and have you remembered this and that, put up your sponsorship page (yes I have, and have YOU sponsored me yet? Yes YOU who is reading this, if not please click HERE right now and give us some dosh for doing this for underprivileged kids who really need our (and your) help, PLEASE!
One of the emails related to the team T shirts. You know the one that I wear on the videos of training sessions, the one I sort of customised a wee bit for last show – cut out the neckline (hate a tight crew neck, SO unflattering darling) and split it at side and tied in jaunty knot? Well, when we got our race pack in the post it came complete with official race T-shirt. Oh what joy, another bloody awful crew neck to add to the collection! Anyway I (and it would appear wrongly) thought that we’d be wearing this new one. So I gave my official STV one to Idgy. She has customised it a wee bit more . I have now had to ask for it back. Delve into the depths of her bedroom (not a pleasant task at the best of times) and find the elusive item. It has been hacked about a tad more, lost the jaunty side knot, a lot of length and just a tad more dramatic around the neck.
Add to this the fact that I omitted to order a nice little trendy small bum bag in time and had to do a mad dash around to try to find one yesterday. Couldn’t find anything. The ever helpful Attila suggested I just stuff everything in my bra (I shove the car key in there when I run with him), point out that a Blackberry, camera, car key and money take up a bit more room and don’t really think my bra is up to the task. Really, men have no concept of style at all. Another journey into Idgy’s room produces her ‘Action Pouch’ (don’t ask!), okay I’ll tell you anyway, it’s a very combat looking thing in black tough denim covered in zips and pockets, with a wide webbing belt, and honestly best suited to Action Man or maybe one of Charlie’s Angels when feeling particularly strident, tough and just a tad butch. Actually if you stuck a gun in the belt and maybe threw a bullet belt thing over your shoulder, you could possibly make a take over bid of a small sparsely populated island or something. Are we seeing this, it is not a dainty little lady’s bum bag!
So there you have it, I’ll be the one dressed in a hacked up T shirt and sporting something best suited to an action hero whilst being red in the face and gasping for breath. At least the hair will look okay as I did manage to get that done yesterday!
Wish me luck – and SPONSOR ME!
