The herbs have gone mad. the mint is EVERYWHERE, filling every available space. It pops up everywhere in all the herb beds large and small.
Round this little bird feeder it has created a jungle and mixes with roses tall and small.
I’ve found a home for some of my mad mint. yesterday I helped friends build a new patch of garden at the side of their house. just prettifying a bare patch of ground about five metres long and a metre and a half wide. We started at 9.30am and finished at 5pm, having cleared it, built a kerb around it, dealt with concrete etc – yuck, hit the local garden centre for some heathers and shrubs, lugged boulders in to make it rocky, and ended up at close of play with something kind of good. And the mad mint, well ne need something along the back that takes care of itself and spreads. a closed in trench will be the answer to over spreading and the mint can smother any weeds popping up at the back.
Result, use for the mad mint at last. Nothing like sharing your mad mint plants!
Just wish I had taken the camera yesterday and done photos of our labours.
When we started in the morning and looked at the sunken concrete we would have to break up with totally inappropriate tools (pink garden trowel for one!) it looked like we’d be beaten from the start. But no, a little bit at a time, breaking the concrete in little chunks, it worked, what looked impossible was possible afterall, it just took a little bit longer.
Aches and pains, a pretty garden and a new home for some of that damn mint, not a bad day all in all.
