On a different Mother’s Day note Idgy gave me the new Jane Eyre dvd. Now would you believe it while I was in Musselburgh at the weekend I picked up this old copy of the book with a lovely inscription inside dated 1908. So I am mixing my Janes, the old with the new. Modern day meets the written word.
I remember studying Jane Eyre at school. I wasn’t quite at the stage of lusting after Mr Rochester, I was far more concerned with my fear for the mad old wife. I used to have nightmares thinking of hideous old ladies setting fire to buildings and moaning and shrieking a lot.
Well I suppose you would moan and shriek a bit if you were in a burning building. But that was always my strongest memory of Jane Eyre. Can’t wait to watch this new version of the film and see what comes to mind nowadays when I am more of the age of the mad old bat who did so much moaning and shrieking.
Oh doesn’t time fly…….
