Ice, ice, baby! I's cold outside. While we are not back in Narnia by any means (only 2 inches of snow this week) we are in the land of solid ice everywhere.
Puddles in potholes on all the lanes, fun to be had stamping and cracking the ice. Oh how easily I'm amused on a walk down the lane. There is definitely no running just now. I will admit the other day I didn't realise there was so much ice on the road and bounded out in trainers and running gear. slithered about for a bit then ran round the garden for ten minutes before calling it a day and heading back indoors. fitness will have to hang fire for better weather.
I have been busy this week tho'. My friend Ali has a new house, a beautiful house that she designed herself. She is determined to get moved in there properly as soon as possible so we have been painting madly all week. At the beginning of the week it looked like an impossible task. Huge high walls going into vaulted ceilings, beams to be stained, walls, ceilings, ladders and scaffolding involved. Wow it looked intimidating.
Ali was positive, oh yes we'll do it. This part will de completed by the end of the week. Er, hmmmm, I have to say I was doubtful. We plunged in there. we have painted, stained, scrubbed and painted again all week. We've chatted non stop, heard music I thought had been lost in the mists of time, had inventive lunches and got to know each over the space of 5 days.
We've had frozen paint, scary paint that turned to crystals and when you painted it on the ceiling it didn't stick and just went splat on your head. We've had tangled wires and falling over buckets, a ladder that has a mind of it's own and folds up while you're half way up it, and a scaffolding platform that could put the fear of God into anyone less agile than an ape.
I've really enjoyed it. It's been a good start to the year. Yes I had my list of 'Must Do' things for the first week of January, but do you know, just putting me and my stuff aside for a week (come on what difference will that make in the scheme of things) and getting out and 'doing' has been a bit of a boost.
Looking round yesterday afternoon it was amazing to see the difference, coloured walls where it was all plasterboard, suddenly it looks more like a home, a living space, and it is getting more comfortable by the day. There is a blue feature wall that is two stories high. It has a huge picture window overlooking the valley. The gorgeous blue colour is that of a summer sky (ok use your imagination on this one, definitely not a January sky), it's really bringing the outdoors in, fabulous.
We're going to finish the main kitchen/living space to day. An exciting start for Ali for the new year, and me, well it's damn good exercise and beats running on ice.
Happy Friday, have a great weekend.
