Twas the week before Christmas………….. This is it, big day, web site closing for Christmas and my first GIVAWAY closes. I will do both at 5pm this afternoon, proper business close-of-play sort of time. I will also be doing the annual Christmas prize draw for the Secret Garden (my newsletter group). Will announce all winners tomorrow morning to much fanfare allbeit silent.
It has been a busy old weekend. On Friday l offered to take a neighbours two German shepherds (dogs here, l wasn't leading two doddery old European sheep herders around) into Stewarton to the Groom Room for a bit of festive pampering. Well you all know my misfortunes with the animal kingdom. Mice, birds they all gang up against me. Anyway l get these two enormous beasties into the jeep and set off. Within half a mile the damn things have leapt from the back and are on the back seat and passenger seat respectively. There is heavy breathing on my neck, a tongue in my ear (and it is not Johnny Depp so not on my agenda), try to shove them out of the way and point out that neither of them has a driving licence. Between the three of us we make it to Stewarton and park the car. Now here's a thing, how do l get out of the car without them and then get them out without us all getting tangled up. Oh, have l forgotten to mention that they were both wearing 4 foot long leads that were now attached to tool kit in back of car and underside of one seat. I grapple about getting them untangled while they think this is a great game and join in. Untangled we leap from the car en mass. I have never seen the villagers move so fast in my life, we cleared the high street! Maybe they looked a tad big and menacing, maybe l looked a tad stressed and wild with hair on end and clothes awry from the scrabble round the car – whatever, people gave us space. We fairly sprinted to the pooch parlour. Well I had to as they were moving a bit fast for me and l had to keep up. Anyway we made it and only 15 minutes late at that. What a releif, l only had to come back for them three hours later. At least l had time to chill out with a coffee first. Journey back was very festive, they were thrilled to see me and smelled wonderful. We were a happy gang, they decided to stay on the back seat and look rather majestic, l stayed on the driving seat and didn't.
Saturday was the last fair at Killearn for the year. It was a fun day and busy, by far the busiest fair of the year there. Sold out all the giant fragrant pine cones and now down to the last two mulling spices. After the fair a group of us went over to the village pub to celebrate. It was really nice to chat to everyone away from their stalls.
Home to a mad rush of getting house sorted and food cooked for a bit of a supper party with Colette and Simon. I got to that dangerously 'overtired 5 year old' stage when l couldn't get the damn stove to light. I am not proud of my Monty Python hysterics as l leapt about swearing and kicked the stove. This didn't help of course and hurt my foot, cast iron and foot do not go well together. Anyway dinner got made, heat was accomplished and friends arrived. Great evening had.
Sunday and christening for Wendy's kids Arran and Emma. Guess who is Godmother! Now any jokes about horses heads in beds etc will be considered tasteless so don't even think of it! I did my bit at the church and said Hi to loads of people l hadn't seen in years. Back to Wendy's for a bit f a party afternoon and then a Sunday evening on the sofa in a pretty pathetic old crock kind of style. This is all just too much for me, l am getting old…………….
