Yesterday my lovely friend Sue came to visit. “What do you want me to bring?” she asked beforehand. There was really only one answer to that one, a no-brainer one word answer – cake!
Sue rather outdid herself. She duly turned up at noon armed with the biggest bunch of flowers, all yellows and whites, sheer unadulterated sunshine and spring all in one huge bouquet. I was stunned and thrilled and so touched. I now have a big jug of flowers to look at in the living room and another in the kitchen, they are a joy.
But Sue was heavy laden, not only did she bring the flowers but out usual lunch from our fav cafe in Paisley where we go every week for our catch-up session. What joy, the soup and sandwich combo wouldn’t be missed this week afterall. Maybe we weren’t sitting at a table with the hustle and bustle of cafe life around us, maybe the bubble of the coffee machine and smell of espresso was missing, but boy oh boy this was a lunch in a million!
Cake of course was not forgotten. She’d even hit the French bakery and brought eclairs oozing cream and sticky with chocolate and yummy calorific goodness.
Could the day get any better? “I bought us Series 1 of The Waltons on ebay but it hasn’t arrived in time” moaned Sue, “So instead I brought us a scary movie”. Well I’m not one for voluntary terror but I had mentioned to Sue that I’d watched that Stephen King movie on TV at Christmas called something like old bones, anyway I’d only watched it for the Piers Brosnan content, but had said to Sue how much I’d enjoyed it even with the jumping out the skin now and then.
Taking me at my word our girl had brought a scary movie to watch. Now if you have never seen “The Orphan” go and rent it right now. Scary and with a twist that will leave you dumbfounded at the end. Brilliant, and yes I did jump out of my skin a good few times and was glad I was watching it with good company in the middle of the afternoon!
So “I’m popping up for coffee” turned into a full afternoon of fun, friendship, film and fabulous food. Honesty what more could anyone want.
Thanks Sue you are a total star!
