Okay, I know, I know, this is cruelty to dinosaurs. Poor old Rex has been left out in the veg patch since March when he was employed to scare birds. You would think we would take better care of the staff wouldn't you.
He has lost all his scariness. Little birdy footprints are everywhere. You can follow their tracks like a join-the-dots puzzle.
Idgy spent yesterday (still snowed in so no school) tracking animals over the fields. She was gone for hours as she followed deer prints and fox tracks. I really don't know how she can stand the cold so well.
I didn't track animals, I stayed indoors with our own animals by the fire. Being by the fire is the only place to be just now. We clocked the temperature in the kitchen last night at minus 4 degrees. Now folks that is indoors and that's with an aga (expensive metal box that cooks things and pumps out heat 24 hours a day – when working – and yes it is thank God) in the same room! The temperature outside was minus 16.
There really are some disadvantages to living on the top of Walton's Mountain. Let me list the latest;
Can't get off said mountain due to drifts and frozen road
Postman can't get here, so not even those annoying freeby catalogues to liven up the day
Food choices limited as can't replenish food supplies and brain freezing over so can't think creatively in kitchen (or anywhere else) any more
Cheese. I made mixed cheeses with herbs and oil on TV the other week. "These will make lovely Christmas prezzies" said I with a smile. Oh no they won't, have eaten all the cheese on every cracker, crisp and bread stick in the house. Oh the calories!
Get up and go has got up and went
Find myself holed up by the fire watching movies instead of trying to do any sort of work
Chocolate and crisps. Why oh why do I have these damn things in the house. Have felt compelled, no, obliged to eat my own weight in badness over past few days. If this freeze goes on much longer there is strong possibility that I will be able to just roll down hill gathering momentum as I go due to all this added weight
Films being watched include; The Holiday, White Christmas, Holiday Inn, It's A Wonderful Life and Love Actually. Are you seeing a theme here? Snow, romance and happy endings seem to go together hand in hand as far as movieland is concerned. This just leaves me noticing own lack in romantic dept even more and feel compelled to guzzle chocolate to cheer self up a bit. Result will be huge build up of flab and rolling down hill etc as already mentioned……
Brain freeze, forgetfulness
what was I talking about?
Keep warm, keep safe
