Sorry not been on line these past few days, very hot and busy this end. Anyway here is a treat for you out there in blogland.
This weekend the shops were all boarded up (some with amazing artwork) in Mont de Marsan, for the annual fetes de Madeleine.
This was serious party time and people came from far and wide for all the events that went on for 5 days. From bull fighting and course Landais to carnivals, displays and music, music, music everywhere…
Horns and trumpets, colour eye searingly bright, music from every street corner, moving with you where ever you went.
At the carnival we go on the Crazy House. Idgy leaping about all over the place laughing at the top of her voice as her poor old Mum lurches from one insane obstacle to another. swaying floors, disappearing steps, elastic walls, all just there to trap the unwary (and far too old for this) visitor. At the end of the ride there is a rolling tunnel, see the kiddies skip gayly through this with no trouble at all. see me quake at the thought of going arse over tip in front of the crowds. Worse is to come – as you step off the roller there is a moving pavement, no problem, easy stuff, I have done those on the upper floors,. I am lulled into a sense of security that is completely unfounded. What happens at the very last minute, a huge gust of hot air right up the skirt a la Marilyn Monroe. And guess what guys, yes I am wearing a skirt on this occasion, whoopsee doo, right up and flashing the best undies. The crowd of French men all standing in front did scream, whistle and give a round of applause. Did the only possible thing, struck a pose and waved!
This is NOT me striking a pose!
Old fashioned side shows, reminiscent of "Big" when Tom Hanks makes his wish come true.
People in love.
Couples dancing in the street.
Drinks all round.
The food of love.
Every side street has different music, impromptu stages, barrels holding makeshift bars, benches and extra tables, come sit a while, grab some shade and enjoy the sounds.
My friends in their band "Adour", they played so well, crowds on their feet, dancing in front of the stage. Loud pulsating music, fabulous lyrics, so much energy.
Hot weather, bright sunshine, fun music – What a day!
Round of applause for "Adour" they were great.
