Okay guys, you asked for it, some info on my little detox plan I’ve been doing. I’m a huge beleiver in a short detox just to kick start your system and clear it out a bit.
WATER – drink lots of water, keepa bottle beside you and sip throughout the day.
No coffee or tea, this has made a huge difference to me and I’ve found that I really prefer herb teas to all those coffees anyway. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still do the odd cappucino but will just have one and not too often either.
Herb teas – A great detoxer is peppermint and ginger. Either use dried mint (1 teaspoon per cup) or buy some peppermint tea bags, grate in about 1/4 of an inch of fresh ginger. You can add honey if you like a sweeter brew.
I also like chamomile tea and find it really calming. just buy the tea bags from the supermarket.
Peppermint smoothie; A great breakfast is this smoothie made with live probiotic yogurt plain not flavoured, peppermint, honey and water. Just put a teaspoon of dried mint in bottom of a jar and add a spoon of boiling water to release the volatile oils. Pour in the yogurt, teaspoon of honey and a bit of water to make it into a drink. Now lid on jar and shake like billyo. You can keep this in the fridge for a few days and pour a glass when you like. it tastes great.
Met Boost cocktail; Cranberry juice is full of antioxidents, apples have vitamins and fibre in bucketloads and ginger is a wonder herb for soothing the stomach and working on your gut, a sprig of rosemary adds even more antioxidents and working goodness. Try this fun drink that I made in a cocktail shaker tious) at home. Whizz up 2 apples in your blender till a smooth mush. Put these in your jar along with about 1.2 inch grated ginger, bruise the rosemary sprig to release oils and add this, add ice and pour in half litre of cranberry juice. Resist temptation to add a shot of vodka! Now shake like mad (you’ve remembered to put a lid on of course!) and pour it out. This is a fabulous drink and tastes as good as it works, fab!!
Detox broth. A great simple clear soup made with any veg you have hanging abouyt. I use 1 carrot, potato, cellery, red pepper, bit of chilli, onion, garlic (garlic very important), bay leaf, some thyme, and most important of all – parsley, great big handful of fresh parsley. Sweat the veg in rape seed oil (lighter than olive oil) then pour in a litre of water and add the herbs, simmer for 30 minutes. Now you can either whizz the soup up for a creamy thick soup or strain through a sieve (this is my choice) for a clear broth. You can add pepper if you need it, NO salt at all.
Salts Bath; At the end of the day have a hot bath in epsom salts. LOTS of epsom salts, a great big handful of the stuff. You can buy this in any chemist. Add a couple of drops of essential oil if you loike, chamomile or lavender to help you relax at night is great. Make a cup of chamomile tea and lie in the bath sipping the tea for about 20 minutes. This is detoxing inside and out. The tea will work on your inners and the epsom salts increase your circulation and make you sweat out impurities. After the bath wrap up warm and toddle off to bed.
