Still having problems re uploading photographs here. In fact wordpress has been a bit of a mess allround. Bear with me, we're working on it and normal service will be resumed as soon as is humanly possible.
It is the school Autumn holidays here. always a strange one i feel, we never had a week off at this time of year. Only seems a few weeks ago when the schools went back after the long summer break. Moan, moan, moan. i am obviously getting old when I feel like this. Any minute now and I'll be spouting forth that doctors and policemen are all getting younger by the day, and whatever is this world coming to……..
Anyway, school holidays. Playing, friends, friendships, gangs, clubs, arguments, fights, heartbreak, sad child.
Sometimes you want to go out there and lash out like a mad monster to protect your child, your friend. When they come and cajole with their faux friendships and give her a smile, she is so thrilled she leaps at the company. Thrills to the camaraderie of their new found club status. Our shed is perfect as a clubhouse so suddenly we are a magnet for a gang of kids. But oh the sadness when within a few days they are laughing at her animal and imaginary world, her secret places and houses in the trees. They kick over her fairy cook stove and grind dirt into the carpets in the clubhouse.
Why oh why? Children are the cruelest of creatures. Could they not have kept their little gang away, just up the lane where they belong, why did they do this to her. I have a sad and lonely little girl here, quietly rebuilding her little stone walls of fairy cook stoves. Carefully rebuilding her stories in her mind.
I don't want to be a calm adult at times like this. I want to make them feel the pain they have bestowed on the one I love. I want their dreams shattered, their favourite places violated and ruined.
Yes, a mad mother, a lioness guarding her cub. Don't worry I won't go banging on doors, sending in the child catcher and shooting minors. Tempting though that all is. No, I shall comfort the one who built the fairy cook stove, will help take down the fairy lights, haul out the old furniture, take down the pictures and clear out the clubhouse and turn it back into a shed.
Then maybe we'll bake a cake.
