Ok that's it, the ferret calendar thing has gone too far. I know l love Harry (and therefore by default all of his kind) but why does everyone l; know think l want them plastered all over the house.
I always have a calendar in the kitchen (don't we all), and for the past 3 years it has been Matthew Rice's fun country artwork gracing the wall chez Karon. Before that it has been a rather charming herby calendar with drawings and paintings on it. Anyway l always buy my own calendar and nbody has ever tried to infiltrate the kitchen wall.
Imagine my surprise this Christmas when l received not just one, but three calendars as gifts. Not only did l receive calendars, they were all ferret calendars (okay, ne is meercats but thats near enugh for me). 'How cute' l cried, eyeing the scuba diving carnivore featured in May with just a tad of trepidation. 'Just perfect for the kitchen'. Now l bet you are reading this thinking 'What a completely ungrateful and nasty creature she is' – well yes l am, but please let me explain m'lord.
I had decided not to invest in my annual feast of Matthew Rice this year, oh no, l was going to be terribly arty and make my own date reminder to hang on the wall. To this end l had spent nearly 6 hours on the Sunday before Christmas carefully drawing up grids, filling in dates and putting in nice borders and pictures. Not only that, l was working on a sort of hotch potch collage of personal photos and stuff as a main picture.
Hmmmmmmmmmm, all that effort and l now have enough ferret pictures (and yes they are scuba diving, sno'boarding, tangoing, lazing on sofas, flying and wind surfing – nothing if not fit and creative these guys) to wallpaper your average semi. I toyed with the idea of which to choose, who to disapoint (afterall, who wouldn't be devastated and prostrate with grief that their calendar wasn't hung on my kitchen wall) and which tasteless pictures l could bear to live with for the next twelve months. Well after a lot of debate (with self) and far to much thought, l have decided that l am going with the homemade collage job with family pictures and momentos. Idgy is having all the ferrets (and meercats) and now has some cunning ideas for dressing Harry up and taking photos herself. Have already found the perfect little santa hat for his December image………………………….
