Aaaaaah how sweet, a heart. Bet you haven't seen many hearts over the past few weeks. I have to say I am sick to death of hearts. Hearts, flowers, chocolates, M&S meals for two, cards, those 'special' messages, cupcakes, movies and yet more special television programmes. Thank God today is the 15th of February and the Valentines hoopla is all over for another year.
Okay so maybe I am the Scrooge of the Valentine world, if Tiny Tim were a Tiny Tessa who was crippled with lack of love instead of Tims move obvious problems, I would be there saying 'so what' and 'get a life'. Yes dear reader, I am sick to death of bloody Valentines Day.
Mr Hallmark has made his mint for this year, and must now be scampering off into the sunset scattering bank notes as he goes. Meanwhile the bin men will be collecting shed loads of tacky cardboard and red ribbons on their rounds this week.
Is it just me, or are there other sensible souls out there. Even when all loved-up and happily in a relationship (see past life, can't remember) I was never a Valentine person. I've always thought it a hyped up money wasting media crazed extravaganza prompted solely by the greed of the card/gift manufacturers. This year seems to have been particularly bad on the media front, with every TV station competing as to who can have the sickliest interviews, cutest couples, most heart wrenching stories.
There are plenty of people who moan that Christmas is way over commercialised (and yes it is, but I love Christmas and it does actually have a meaning behind all the hoopla, and people do give more to charities etc at that time of year) and they get branded as Scrooges every year, how can they possibly resent other people having their festive fun. I am obviously the Valentine Scrooge, while I certainly don't resent anyone feeling lovey dovey to their partner and celebrating this 'Big Day', I really do think that it is rammed down our throats nowadays.
So the 15th of February is a 'Good Day', back to normal, joy, deep joy……
